Case Study
Business 2.0 Site Design
Content Management, Custom News Syndication Tools
Quinn Interactive helped Business 2.0, a print and online business and technology publication, thoroughly revamp their high-volume website to incorporate a cutting-edge content management system (CMS). We helped the company streamline their information management, enhance the import and syndication of online stories and features, maximize their online advertising revenue and minimize operating costs.
The Client
Business 2.0 is an award-winning online and print publication offering articles about business, technology and innovation. Their print circulation recently topped 350,000. Since its debut in 1998, the publication has received a host of prestigious industry awards.
The Challenge
Business 2.0 was a thriving publication. Shortly before the project initiation, the publication's online version had achieved a 360 percent growth rate in unique visitors. Company management felt the time had come to implement a more advanced content management system in order to enhance site responsiveness, and increase their control over site design and functionality.
In addition, the company wished to be able to import and export a wide range news stories and other information and to significantly upgrade their online advertising systems. The move to these new applications had to be made seamlessly and within two months of the project's inception. Business 2.0 called on Atomz and Quinn Interactive to take on this vital and time-sensitive project.
The Solutions
Content Management
Quinn Interactive worked with Atomz engineers, using the Atomz content management system, Atomz Publish, to rebuild the Business 2.0 website. The new content management and publishing methodology replaced the site's old database-intensive framework, dramatically increasing site responsiveness. We also designed and implemented an efficient editorial workflow system. Throughout the project, we worked closely with Business 2.0 staff and Atomz' engineers to be sure that each element of the integration went smoothly.
Custom news content
We integrated content news syndication tools into the Business 2.0 website. This technology allowed the publication to import a diverse range of articles, photos and other features, including stock prices and graphs. The system also enabled the publication to syndicate their content through a variety of tools, including RSS, allowing both the import and export of custom industry news feeds, headlines and short features.
Advertising
We helped Business 2.0 optimize their ad space and maximize advertising revenue by converting the site to DART (DoubleClick), the industry standard advertising serving system. The system we implemented included advanced advertising traffic reporting features and campaign scheduling features.
Training
We worked with the many departments and stakeholders within Business 2.0, conducting intensive on-site training to ensure that publication management and staff fully understood the tools we had implemented. Our goal was to help Business 2.0 gain maximum benefit from every system we'd helped install into their site.
Results
We were able to meet the Business 2.0 deadline, implementing all new technologies and systems within the mandated two-month window, and without hindering the daily workings of the website in any way. Business 2.0 acquired a more responsive website and a fast and efficient methodology for importing and sharing articles and information. In addition, the new systems helped the company increase advertising and syndication revenues and slash their IT spending by an impressive 60 percent.
