Case Study
BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit)
Conversion of HTML Mockups into Omniture Publish® Templates
The Client
Bay Area Rapid Transit (BART) operates a public system of electric trains in the San Francisco Bay Area, serving major transportation corridors and linking disparate transportation services and hubs.
The Challenge
BART completely redesigned and reorganized their website, with the goal of developing a stronger community-oriented brand to compete with other emerging, web-based trip planning services. They hired a diverse team for IA/UI, visual design, and HTML development. Because BART has used Omniture Publish as their content management system (CMS) for many years, BART needed experts to convert their designs and HTML into Publish templates. Quinn Interactive, experts in Publish since the product’s inception, was contracted to provide this service.
The Solution
QI worked with the IA/UI and visual designers to implement standards-compliant HTML in Omniture Publish to support 30+ page types and about 500 pages. Page types included a station locator with detail pop-ups and mapping, detailed train schedules, ticket and fare options, rider information and support, news and updates, and a robust About section with governance, history and employment information. Other pages support community advocacy and attention to neighborhoods impacted by BART, to demonstrate BART’s commitment to building vibrant neighborhoods near public transportation.
The Results
The successful conversion of HTML to Omniture Publish templates resulted in a scalable website with flexible page types, which make it easy for site administrators to update the site. Scheduling features and links to supportive, external systems are easy for BART’s customers to find and use. Site visitors now have a clean, easy to navigate website that serves various BART constituencies, including riders, neighborhoods, local governments, and employees.
