Quinn Interactive (QI) worked with Pericom’s internal marketing team to perform a complete information architecture overhaul, site design, and implementation of SilverStripe with many custom additions and features.
About Pericom
Pericom is a fast-growing semiconductor company specializing in integrated connectivity, advanced timing, and signal integrity solutions for the computing, communications, and consumer market segments. Their technology offers system design solutions to the challenges presented by high-bandwidth, high-speed serial protocols. In 1990, Alex Hui and John Hui founded Pericom in San Jose, where the company has thrived and grown to over 900 employees worldwide with design centers in North America and Asia. Their technical and sales support offices are located around the globe. Pericom is listed on the NASDAQ under the ticker symbol PSEM.
The Challenge
Pericom needed to completely reorganize and redesign their website. They also wanted a publishing solution that would afford them more control over their own content produced by both technical and non-technical content creators.
The site had a number of existing features that needed to be migrated and/or replicated and/or enhanced, including these:
- 20,000+ site member accounts
- 1000+ product details (only some of which were on their old site)
- Complex knowledge base
They also had identified some new needs:
- Improved findability for product details
- Superior site search
- A more engaging and useful homepage
The Solution
Information Architecture
QI worked together with Pericom to develop information architecture strategies that have greatly improved the site’s usability and usefulness. This included completely rethinking how visitors browse, find, and review product information.
Visual Design
QI created a cohesive and attractive site design that communicated Pericom’s brand concept, “Enabling High-Speed Serial Connectivity.”
As part of the redesign, QI widened the site to accommodate modern display widths, and updated the layout, color palette, and typography to feel more high-tech and professional.
CMS development
We used SilverStripe’s MVC framework and CMS to manage and present the new site. The flexible development framework enabled us to create and manage complex content such as product details, technical change notices, and knowledge base entries.
Now that it’s in SilverStripe, Pericom can easily add and edit their content throughout the site.
Custom features
Quinn Interactive added custom code to provide even greater capabilities to the new site. These included these features:
- Guided navigation filters to enable design engineers to browse for and find Pericom products
- Enhanced site search to find both products and other pages
- Sales representative finder
- Members-only area with different access groups for registered members, sales representatives, and staff
- User profile and dashboard where members can save products for review and order samples of later
